Smart Energy Technology for Today’s New Home

The Terraso Solution energy-efficient new home construction technology is being launched in Arizona, in July 2009.  The patent pending technology redesigned how a conventional home is constructed, leading up to a 70% reduction in home energy consumption.  The technology is extremely cost effective and is poised for rapid growth with today’s growing demand for energy-efficient products.

Gilbert, Arizona June 15, 2009 – Terraso Solution, a new home construction technology is setting unprecedented standards for energy-efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Terraso, Inc. a Gilbert, Arizona based company will be launching a new energy-efficient home construction technology to home builders in Arizona and across the U.S.  The technology, Terraso Solution, is a super energy-efficient whole house design and gives a homeowner up to 70% reduction in home energy consumption.

The Terraso Solution technology was created as a response to the tumbling housing market.  Terraso, Inc. President and CEO, Steve Leathers recalls “We wanted to create an answer to the housing market crash.  As a new home builder it became impossible to compete with foreclosures on price alone.  We wanted to develop a technology that would allow builders to start building again by competing with existing housing on a whole new level.”

Terraso Solution has been under development for the last 18 months and after extensive testing is now available for the marketplace.  Steve Peterson, the lead energy-efficient engineer for Terraso, Inc. stated, “It was very important for us to lead the Terraso Solution project with science.  We wanted no question about the effectiveness of the design so we performed extensive engineering studies on the project.  We then built a proof of concept home where we are able to verify the scientific data through live testing.”

The testing results show the Terraso Solution technology can save a homeowner up to 70% on household energy consumption.  The utility savings can add up to a couple of hundred dollars a month depending on the size of the home.  This is an unprecedented level of savings that has never been available to the general public.

The cost of the patent-pending technology can range anywhere from $10,000 for a starter home, and up to $25,000 for larger custom homes.  After the cost of the technology is included in a mortgage, homeowners are expected to see a net monthly savings of $100 to $300 depending on the size of the home, placing homeowners money ahead from the day they move in.

“It’s extremely cost effective,” Leathers stated.  “It doesn’t make sense to build a home in the old conventional way anymore.  When you can put money in the pocket of a homeowner each month, it becomes a very valuable technology.”

Leathers, a 44 year veteran in the construction industry saw the last big construction advancement in the early 70’s, when block homes were replaced by 2x6 frame construction with fiberglass batts.  The typical 2x6 frame house hasn’t changed much over the last 35 years, making the housing market way overdue for advancement in technology and efficiency.  Terraso, Inc. plans on leading that change.

Leathers also noted that they are poised for exponential growth.  “Even with the devastation of the housing market, there were still over 460,000 new homes built in 2008.  That’s a lot of homes, and we don’t need all of them to be built with our technology for us to be wildly successful.  We are only looking to achieve a 1% to 2% market penetration over the next few years, and we feel that is obtainable even in a down market.”

Builders interested in the new technology can sign up to become a licensed Terraso Solution home builder.  Terraso, Inc. supports licensed builders with training, marketing tools, and sending them to prospective buyers.  A homebuyer can also choose a builder and ask them to become licensed to build a Terraso Solution home using the builder’s own floor plans.

Local Power Company Endorses Terraso Solution Technology

The Terraso Solution energy-efficient new home construction technology is supported by Salt River Project (SRP) a local power company in the Phoenix metro area.  The technology can reduce a new home’s energy consumption up to 70% and exceeds the SRP PowerWise HomeTM program standards.

Gilbert, Arizona July 9, 2009 – Terraso Solution, a unique home construction technology is capturing the attention of power companies for its outstanding energy efficiency.

Located in South Phoenix, nestled in the South Mountain foothills, a technologically advanced home is drawing some serious attention.  The home was built using the newly developed Terraso Solution energy-efficient technology that can reduce household energy consumption by up to 70%.  The unprecedented energy-efficient home has caught the attention of the local power company.

Like many power companies across the nation, Salt River Project (SRP) is working to reduce household energy consumption.  To help with this mission, power companies often offer rebates for energy-efficient appliance upgrades, heating and cooling upgrades, or solar and other sustainable energy sources.  New technologies that bring significant reductions in household energy consumption are encouraged.

The Terraso Solution new home technology is building excitement with a whole house design that takes the walls, roof, and insulation of a home to a whole new level of energy efficiency.  Steve Leathers, Terraso, Inc. President and CEO states “It’s exciting to see the reaction on people’s faces when they come out to see our Terraso Solution home.  It’s a very impressive home.  They have never seen anything like it.”

Rebecca Smout, C.E.M. of SRP recalled “The energy-efficient results at the Terraso Solution home were very impressive so we decided to review the Terraso Solution technology on the home in South Phoenix.  We also brought in Energy Inspectors, LLC (a third party company) to verify the energy-efficiency on the home.”

Judd Jensen of Energy Inspectors, LLC performed the testing.  Jensen stated “I remember hearing about the house before I was even called out there for the testing.  There was quite a buzz growing about the Terraso Solution technology.”  Jensen was excited to see the home, learn what had been done differently, and to see how effective the technology performed.

“When I was doing the testing I remember double checking all of my readings because I had never seen performance numbers that high before.  I wanted to make sure it wasn’t a mistake, and sure enough it wasn’t.”  Jensen explains, “I’ve been testing homes on energy efficiency for many years now.  This Terraso Solution home is amazing!  It’s by far the most energy efficient home I’ve ever seen.”

The third party verification is a requirement of the SRP PowerWise HomeTM program.  Smout, a key account manager for the PowerWise HomeTM program said, “I have reviewed the Terraso Project for the PowerWise Home program and it has more than exceeded our requirements for energy efficiency.  These are nice homes that use significantly less power - saving homeowners hundreds of dollars on their electric bills each year.”

The staff at Terraso, Inc. is excited about SRP’s support and feels this will be the first of many future opportunities from the power industry.  The common goal of dramatically reducing household energy consumption is a vision both shared by Terraso Inc. and the local power companies.

Salt River Project (SRP) is located in the Phoenix, Arizona metro area, and serves 930,000 retail customers.

Energy-Efficient New Home Construction Technology Saves Homeowners up to $40,000 Over 10 Years

The Terraso Solution hailed as the next generation of energy-efficient new home construction, is saving homeowners a substantial amount of money.  The patent-pending new home construction technology uses a revolutionary whole house design and saves homeowners up to 70% of their home energy consumption.

Gilbert, Arizona July 17, 2009 – Terraso Solution new home construction technology redefines the term “efficient” for energy-efficient homes.

Terraso, Inc. a Gilbert, Arizona based company, recently launched the Terraso Solution technology, making it available to homebuilders across the nation.  The technology redefines energy-efficiency in a home, saving homeowners up to 70% on their energy bills.

Testing results show the Terraso Solution technology can save a homeowner up to 70% on household energy consumption.  The utility savings can add up to several hundred dollars a month depending on the size of the home.  This is an unprecedented level of savings that has never been available to the general public.

The cost of the patent-pending technology can range from $10,000 for a starter home, and up to $25,000 for larger custom homes.  After the cost of the technology is included in a mortgage, homeowners are expected to see a net monthly savings of $100 to $300 depending on the size of the home, placing homeowners money ahead from the day they move in.

Financial benefits of the Terraso Solution technology extend beyond the reduction in monthly energy bills.  Terraso Inc. Vice President of Sales, Jim Enriquez reveals “The main benefit of the Terraso Solution technology is the dramatic reduction in monthly bills, but what a lot of people don’t realize is that according to the National Appraisers Association, a Terraso home is worth $30,000 to $50,000 more than the same house without the technology.”  Enriquez refers to a government-funded study that determined a home is worth $20 more for each dollar saved on an annual utility bill (More Evidence of Rational Market Valuations for Home Energy Efficiency).

The Terraso Solution also helps homeowners overcome rising energy costs.  Terraso’s local power company just announced an 8.8% rate hike.  Utility rate increases approaching double digits are not uncommon in today’s marketplace.  Just last year, Hawaii had a massive 39.84% electrical power rate increase.  If you have a $300 monthly utility bill with an annual rate increase of just 8%, your utility bill will double to $600 ten years from now.

Because of these rising energy costs, the Terraso Solution technology savings can be as much as $40,000 over the next decade.  Enriquez points out, “It’s nice to know our technology has greater value to a homeowner each year that goes by.  The Terraso Solution provides the homeowner control over rising energy costs.”

The Terraso Solution also benefits homebuyers when applying for a home mortgage.  Lenders take into account a homeowner’s monthly expenses.  A smaller estimated utility bill can make it easier for the buyer to qualify, or qualify for a larger home mortgage.

Enriquez explains, “It’s nice when you can help a homebuyer get into their dream home, but the real reward occurs when you can save them thousands of dollars on their energy bills.  We are proud to be a leader in energy-efficient construction technology.”

Builders interested in the new technology can sign up to become a licensed Terraso Solution home builder.  Terraso, Inc. supports licensed builders with training, marketing tools, and sending them prospective buyers.  A homebuyer can also choose a builder and ask them to become licensed and build a Terraso Solution home.  The Terraso Solution flexibility is designed to fit any builder’s existing floor plans.
